Our journey to become a B Corp!

We have some amazing news - we did it! Carma is now B Corp certified.

We are joining over 6,000 other businesses who believe in putting positive social and environmental impact first!

What is BCorp?

B Corp certification is  for companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The certification is administered by a nonprofit organization called B Lab.

To be certified as a B Corp, a company must undergo a rigorous assessment of its impact on governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment. This assessment is used to determine the company's overall social and environmental performance, which must meet certain standards in order to receive certification.

B Corp Certification is ranked over five categories: ‘Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, Customers’

Their vision is one that aligns perfectly with us here at Carma, B Corp aims to put people and planet over profit.  B Corp wants to make every business a force for good.

Our B Corp journey:

Written by Iain Gurney, Co-Founder of Carma.

I first heard about B Corp in 2021 during research for my next venture which has now become Carma. Having just finished a long stint in the tech sector I explored what I wanted to do next and how I could re-align with my core values.

For me, Carma was a huge moment of clarity and putting all my skill, expertise and energy towards helping society and the ecosystem was the only way forward.

I attended the open university to further my knowledge in Social and Environmental studies and soon learned that the BCorp certification processes would help to validate my businesses whilst providing positive impactful purpose, frameworks and practices - it was hard but anyone who knows me will know how much I enjoy a good box ticking exercise.

This was no easy feat, but it was always in our roadmap to align ourselves with B Corp as a company committed to doing good.

The B Corp process took 12 months of preparation, execution, and refinement. It involved a rigorous assessment of our social and environmental performance, as well as our commitment to positioning Carma as a force for good.

We are proud to be a B Corp because it validates our commitment to these values. It also opens up new opportunities for us to connect with other businesses that are working to solve social and environmental problems

We are excited to join the B Corp community and continue to work towards making a positive impact on the world

What does B Corp mean for Carma?

Carma’s mission is to make every transaction create positive action. Everything we do here at Carma is to create positive social and environmental impact. Every tree that you plant with us does just that. It helps combat climate change, creates employment for veterans and impoverished communities around the world.

Being a part of B Corp means we are now a part of a community of like minded individuals. It allows us to connect, be inspired and work alongside other businesses who also want to use their business as a force for good.

To conclude, becoming B Corp certified has been an extremely challenging but rewarding experience and we are beyond thrilled to has become certified. We hope to see a future in which all businesses become a force for good and constantly work towards a better future for both people and planet.

To everyone who has supported us through this journey, thank you.

Carma,

Doing good, together.
